Auckland-based, 24, Master's in CS (Nov 2025), job hunting since March 2026. Three interviews so far, came closest on a QA role but missed the CCAT cutoff by 6 points.
Almost a year of pro experience as a Junior Sysadmin but still struggling to land Graduate or Junior tech roles.
Does per-role tailoring actually move the needle, or is one strong general CV enough? Open to any advice or leads!

Sorry to hear that. It's a journey and everyone is running their own race.

I suggest you put your resume, experience at work, stories, etc in AI like Chatgpt. Then wehn you find a job you think you fit, copy and paste that description in that same AI and prompt it to tailor a resume based on the job description in ATS format.

like

Oh interesting I actually built a prompt file with specific instructions that extracts job descriptions and has my « skills inventory, projects, traits and more » to facilitate because usually chatgpt or claude over claim your experience to match exactly the job. I haven’t found anything about ATS format that’s interestin. Do you think I should consider Online ATS analyser? I feel like they are giving poor results until you pay a specific subscription.

Yes it does move the needle. Need to do it every time.

Honestly the best responses I had was when I would tweak my CV to fit the parameters of the job application. And then send a cover letter explaining why my education and a summary of my professional career and how my background is beneficial to the position.

Has a partner ever come back and asked you why you spent so much time on certain things? Im a first year and this hasn’t happened to me at my firm and they tell us not to cut our own time, but my first firm (short stint, small firm) did this to me allll the time and made me feel guilty — so just curious if this has happened to anyone in big law.

Hi all, had a situation I need some help with. PE fund owned interest in a bank that was a CFC that has 965 PTEP. Recently sold off part of it's interest and the bank is no longer considered a CFC. Under the new PFIC regs, I believe it qualifies as a PFIC. How would distributions be treated seeing as it would still qualify as a specified foreign corp?

I have a question, I got a contract role through a recruiter. Initially the recruiter offered the hourly pay rate which was the minimum in my range. Now I got an offer from the company. Now without me asking her she increased the hourly wage to the maximum range I asked. Which makes me doubt if the company increased it or she knew the rate all along but gave me the lower rate ?

Hi all, recently in touch by Spotify recruiter for a Sec Engineer position for remote EU and was told that range was 60-80 out of base salary and equity. Had 2 years of security experience out of my 4 years. Was also told that there is no bonus scheme or no sign in bonus 😕 Not sure how I feel about this tbh.

What do you think?

I'm looking to find a job like the Forward Deployed Engineer role Palantir Technologies in the UK.

I have become hooked on finding a job that involves solving the kinds of problems they presented during their interviews. Although I got to the final round my performance anxiety got the better of me (I think I wanted the job a bit too much...). I will reapply after working in a similar company.

Is it "deep tech" / "data science" or "smart enterprise" that they're doing? Any advice welcome.

I am starting a 4-months internship at a company B in January. However, I just heard from a company T that they will interview me for their full time position.

Company T is paying me way more (twice) than Company B. And I like company T more. However, they want me to start working in February if I get this position. If I end up getting the offer, I will have to quit my internship at Company B, almost immediately after I begin the internship.

Is this okay?
