Back when I worked in logistics, a customer once asked if we could “ship air” because they needed to test how their packaging held up in transit. I thought he was pulling my leg, but he really wanted us to load a pallet with…nothing. The team and I just stared at each other before deciding to wrap empty boxes in shrink film. He was thrilled. Ever had a request so off-the-wall in logistics that you couldn’t decide whether to laugh or just make it happen?

Lol that's honestly kind of awesome. If he's willing to pay for it, why not right? Nothing logistics related, but at my last job I had a person call in and ask if I wouldn't mind walking out of the office to check the hours of the restaurant that had just opened a few blocks down 😂. I did mind. She wasn't happy.

Haha, yeah, some people really think “customer service” means doing literally everything for them.

Far be it from me to go against the customer's wishes. Sometimes I get people asking me to do things so far outside of my job description, I do desperately want to laugh, unfortunately, that is still frowned upon.

Right? There’s that moment where you have to bite your tongue and nod, even though your brain is screaming “no way.”

I understand the importance of citations. It's a wonderful way to show how your work builds on previous research. But sometimes I just want to write an article that says "I think this" without having to cite everyone who ever said that before me.

Back when I was getting started in the food world, I worked flipping burgers at In-n-Out. A man came in and said the burgers he had gotten weren’t right. He dumped the food on the counter and then he started throwing them back behind the counter. We gave him a refund and then his demeanor completely changed. He was calmer and he told us to have a great day as he left us to clean up the mess he made.
