Cover letters are still a thing?
Quoting, "To whom may read this, This is my cover letter. There are many like it, but this one is different. It ends right now."
I ain't sending cover letters. If they want one, I ain't applying lol
I never look at them.... Does anyone else?
I specifically apply primarily on LinkedIn when at all possible because I don't need to have a cover letter.

Yeah - don't waste my time with a cover letter unless you have something outstanding to say or if there's something in your resume that needs explaining (a gap in employment, different city, why you're a VP applying for an associate job, etc) I'd rather no cover letter than a generic one telling me how you're the perfect fit, blah blah blah. I want to see your last 2-3 years of employment (maybe last 5) and where you went to school.
the cover letter seems to be more for the HR folks than it is for the dept hiring. it's required for some positions so it's always good to have a few different options available just in case.
I had to submit an application for my last job because of "formalities" (read: they wanted it to look like an unbiased hire and not another referral). Anyway, for resume I typed "Yes." And for cover letter I uploaded a pdf that said "No." But, that's not to say I don't have a bit of fun with some of the unsolicited emails I send out as first contact. I wouldn't suggest any of the stupid shit I've sent though. And I wouldn't classify any of it as a cover letter.
I would write "Applying for this position. I think my skills match what you are looking for. Please consider me." So I would not put in the blah-blah pointing out which of their requirements match my experience, just the blanket statement. (Former GSW)
I'd rather creep on a LinkedIn profile and ask mutual connections than even contemplate reading a cover letter. The two exceptions would be interns and coordinators straight out of school.
