Best neighborhood for a someone in their late 20s (single) that wants to meet other professionals?

[More info]
My main priority is affordability (1br <$1.7k), walkability to coffee shop/grocery store/gym, and young professionals (22-35). People say uptown but when I visit it seems empty and dirty. I’ve been told the Colony, which has a party reputation I probably don’t want. I’m visiting the Village and Lower Greenville this weekend. Hoping to hear some of your perspectives.

Uptown has a lot of "subparts": the southern "crescent " area is more fancy and mixed corporate, the lower McKinney area a lot of bars, State Thomas a lot of townhouse and slightly quieter, and West Villege area. Uptown is still probably the staple "young professional" area. Also check out Victory Park, Lower Greenville, and Knox Henderson. To a lesser extent Oak Lawn and Bishop Arts. Deep Ellum has come a long way, but still a bit sketchy. West Dallas and old east Dallas is also undergoing some gentrification.

Greenville check out Greenville blvd (just look up near the trader joes and you know where). State Thomas is the pocket east of McKinney and south of hall. Bishop arts is mainly along bishop Ave although some stuff of Davis too

I like the walkable areas of white rock, Katy trail area. But I like the vibe of Addison, it’s grown a lot in the last 10 years to cater to young professionals.

The Colony has a party reputation? TIL….

like

Rumor has it, them pool parties no joke

I would suggest Henderson/Lower Greenville, State Thomas area of Uptown, Bishop Arts area, or Lakewood (slightly more family energy there).

like

MAA Worthington in State Thomas is quite nice. Magnolia Lakewood is also great.

like

State Thomas is the spot.

THE spot?

Don’t go to deep ellum. I stay in lower Greenville so I am biased

I dont think I would

Addison and Las Colinas

Las Colinas is pretty nice.

Victory park

Why

My wife and I are early 30s. Just moved to Knox. Enjoying the walkability of the area and access to the Katy Trail. Seem to be quite a few people in their 20s in the area. Renting a 2 bed for ~$1.9k.

How did you find your place? I’m looking into moving to Knox and everything I’m seeing is $2k+ for a 1 bedroom. Thanks!

like

Austin Ranch area of the colony or Las Colinas are great for this age group

Are there a lot of young professionals in Austin ranch? What’s good about las colinas? I have been hearing more about that

Legacy west .. it does have public transport to downtown, with non stop bus service on week days if one works there ..

So I say this with complete humility and an understanding that this is a fortunate-ish situation to be in. I’m in a position where I am tied to nothing, I have no children, spouse, or house. My job, which I’ve loved until some recent significant leadership changes, is sucking the life out of me and I think it may be time for a change. Because I am able to “pick up and go” I’m open to opportunities and locations. I’ve never worked with a recruiter but was hoping I could get some recommendations!

Hi everyone,

I wanted to leverage the hive mind in finding out how best to negotiate a verbal offer for a 100%-remote Product Manager role in NYC, with a IT infrastructure/digital services firm (MNC but non-American):

Base salary: 120k

Sign-on bonus:10k

Bonus: 15%

No stock options

How competitive is this, and what should I negotiate for please? The written offer comes after verbal agreement.

I've 10 YOE in tech project management; 7 in product management.

Good evening all,
With my partner we are considering making a move to the countryside of Switzerland, with a gorgeous RE project offering incredible views on immaculate mountains and lake. However, it is far away, and will require 1h+ train/car commute vs. 10 min biking right now. We are scared it will bite us back at some point, although COVID helped w/ remote working being a new norm. The project will be done 2024, so I hope to have a more relax job by then. Any similar experience to share?
