In the old days moving to IB wasn’t uncommon.
IME, transition is much more likely in a less structured direct investing environment like a family office. As others have noted, shift to PE from law was more common in the old days, but now the pipeline is very standardized.
I’ve seen it done directly in Canada. Only one example but I can’t speak to how difficult it was or how many others tried unsuccessfully
BL -> IB -> PE sounds more likely but even this would be tough
Yes definitely, that’s why I said it will still be tough. Could also try consulting but it gets harder as you get older
Honestly I have never seen this transition. Closest I've heard about is law to merger arb
Any specific funds you would advise me to look into?
It’s possible

To become GC? Maybe…to be on the investment side is tough.
Probably would lean on your law partners to see if they have connections and can recommend. Be sure to kill all technicals though.
Oh god that's a career-ender if you have to stay in law though. But I do have loads of those.

If you can do math, why did you become a lawyer? Semi joking but also semi genuine question…

I get it - I was a paralegal before finance and it’s been helpful. Seems like an expensive 4-5 years though from an opportunity cost perspective to go whole hog on law school, biglaw though!
