Under 1700. $95k is absurd for NYC though. Are you sure this is a real boutique and not just a small firm masquerading as one? Does it only handle one industry or area of law?
I mean I think that makes sense for a 4 attorney firm probably, but it’s way below market and I wouldn’t work for that firm. It’s likely not a true boutique either, just a small firm - boutique firms typically service one subset of clients/industries/areas of law, if it doesn’t do that it’s just a small firm.
When I was a 1st year I declined my first offer for $95k and went with a better offer for $125k at a true small boutique (45 attorneys) - but even that was underpaid, though at least it was consistent with the NJ small-midlaw market.
Rising Star
Maybe an unpopular opinion but I don’t consider a firm to be a true “boutique” if it pays substantially under market. Personally wouldn’t be willing to bill anything over 1400-1500 hrs for 95k in NYC.
I agree with that. I think a 4 person firm paying $95k/yr is probably not a real boutique.
1700
I am a paralegal in Chicago and I make over 100k a year and I work at a mid size firm. I made around 85k working at a boutique firm doing commercial litigation and my billable requirement was 1600 I believe.
Unless your bonus is massive, you should be making twice that. Start looking.
