Burnt out and thinking about quitting my current job so I can take some time to regroup, update my site, relax a little bit, and look for a new position. Is that way too risky?

Here’s my advice. Take 10 days off. Spend 5 relaxing. 5 updating your site. Go back refreshed and ready to find a new Gig while you still have one

like

Pretty risky unless you have a trust fund

like

If you’ve got the $ to regroup, go for it. But I’d make the most of the time off. Travel the world, learn a new skill, volunteer. When you try to re-enter the business, people are going to want to hear an interesting story as to what you did with the time away.

It’s two work weeks. Your team can live without you

like

Yes very. Check with some unemployed friends about how easy a time theyve been having looking for a job, or freelance work. We're none of us indispensable. Dont you have any vacation built up?

like

Completely depends on your book.

like

I did it. Took me 3 months to land something new.

like

I know someone who left over a year ago and still hasn’t landed a new gig so definitely decide if you’re ok with the worst possible outcome

like

If you’re in the right financial situation, then do it. You can always just say that you quit to freelance

I am currently in industry, but was a Senior in Accounting Advisory, and before that an audit associate. I’m thinking of trying DDV at PwC as I’ve always been interested in M&A integration, but am unsure on carry over of skills and also would like to go somewhere I can be bumped to Manager as I was almost there prior to leaving industry. I know they are on a hiring spree so would coming in as a Manager be possible? I’ve previously been on M&A audit/AAS engagements.

Hello all! I am an MBA in Accounting graduate who has had a few AR jobs in my past professional career and in my current role, I do GL postings and reconciliations and ensure everything for my assigned account is entered and posted to the GL. I really want to transition fully into the Accounting world but when I apply for Staff Accountant jobs (in my mind a step above entry-level), I don't get many calls. What am I doing wrong? What should I be applying for with my education and experience?

Currently in the US but interviewing for a UK-based firm and role. The comp level they are throwing around is £250k TC. Is this reasonable for a Director-level role with 12 YOE? My comparator would be wait 18-24mo to become a consulting partner - in the US that starts at $450k/£325k. For the purposes of this question, assume I’m optimizing for initial comp, not long term potential, and not livability, Intl experience, WLB, CoL etc. Thanks!

Moms, both husband and I are nearing the end of our parental leave. We live in a two bedroom in NYC. We are thinking of hiring a nanny. The plan is that I would work from one room and husband would work from another room. We can move the changing table and pack n play in the living room, and the nanny and the baby can hang in the living room. Does this sound like a good plan?

In need of some guidance re: a potential promotion. A senior writer on my team is leaving and I’m hoping to transition into that role (I’m mid level). Last week I talked to my GCD/manager about the writer leaving. We mostly only talked about passing along recos to get a referral bonus. Then it hit me hours later: I’m the one for the job. I set up time to talk to said manager. I have my reasons all set and ready but I’m worried they’ll say no on the spot. How can I best prepare?

I send him the deck and he doesn't respond until Sunday afternoon. Then gets pissy when I say I can't hop on the phone at that exact moment.
