I think the only security is at the main terminal. As I recall, it's open season from there.
ey1 can u clarify what u mean about not needing to go through security?
I didn't have to go through a second layer of security at F terminal, just the security to get in ATL. If you are on a layover, you wouldn't have a security checkpoint stop at the F terminal.
You get off the tram, pass a wall of flight information, and take the escalator to your left. When you go up them, you are at the mezzanine level in the picture. https://intlxpatr.wordpress.com/2012/06/16/atlanta-and-the-new-f-terminal/
Don't need to go through security to get there. Be sure to check out the Sky deck for fresh air! It's a nice terminal area with high(er) end shops as well.
Yes, I did it a few weeks ago. You have to go through security for the Intl terminal but just tell them you're going to the lounge and they'll let you through
awesome, thank you. do they have precheck at the intl terminal?
I didn't have to go through any additional security as of two weeks ago.... You just go on two sets of escalators up to the mezzanine level.
You can go through security at ATL Intl but last I did it, there was no PreCheck. Take the train or walk to whatever terminal you want once past security.
It's far. Make sure you have an extra 45 mins
Maybe I'm mistaken, but I thought the international terminal was totally separate from all the domestic terminals. OP I went straight there when I got to the airport and they did have precheck, but then had to leave outside of security to get to my actual terminal
K1, you're sort of right, and sort of wrong. The old concourses (T, A-E) you entered through what is now the domestic terminal. Then they built F and it has its own land side. However, the plane train runs all the way through, and you can even walk...although it's far. There is only normal security to go from land side to air side, no additional security to enter or leave F from the rest of the concourses.
To answer OP's question: YES. You can go through the security in the international terminal if flying domestically, and the train connects the entire airport.
Source: have flown into and out of ATL over 500 times and used to use international terminal exclusively for security and departing the airport regardless of where the flight was to / from, before I relocated away from ATL.
Though, if you are PreCheck, they have different hours from the domestic side if you are flying very early or later in the day.
^everything M1 said. International terminal security doesn't care whether your flight is domestic or international. Check online for pre-check hours. I think in the AM it closes by 9:30 or so.
