Anethm started 2015 as a Care Manager (confusing the same title) doing utilization review at 70,900 ended 2020 at 81,743
Yearly bonuses were given in both roles ranging from $5,000-$15,000. Made it through 2 lay offs before quitting.
Got into it because I was putting my ex through their doctoral program and we needed the money I thought. I just kept applying until I was hired. I had a long history of working in the field including as a case worked for developmentally disabled, at a substance abuse rehab, at a youth shelter, in community support with Medicare/ medicaid patients, working with drug court, taught as an Adjunct at a university, presented at a conference, and at a psychiatric hospital in their PHP/IOP program. I got hired to the more care management side where I'd call members and give telephonic coaching then transitioned with the company to case management where I dealt with the utilization management side approving IP, RTC, PHO, IOP, and ECT. I am very much a person who loves using computer programs, is very organized, uses Excel for everything, etc etc.
I stayed through several software and organizationals changes. I left after several corporate changes made the work feel unbearable to me. First the company laid off half my department to cut costs for a merger. Then they made a series of changes increasing my workload and that seemed, in my opinion, to not be in the interest of the members. During this time I repeatedly asked for assistance and training on the new software and procedures and my requests didn't produce results. I went to school to be a counselor to help people. I didn't feel I was helping anyone anymore.
Now I'm doing private practice via telehealth and feel happy with my work. I work for myself so I dont have any of the cushy benefits. And as I started this via platforms like BetterHelp, Calmerry, Talkspace, Teladoc, amd Sondermind I don't make anywhere near what I was making working for insurance though I'm working my way back to a similar or better income level.
I've also had several big personal life changes during this time that have impacted all of this.
