I have an offer from Mercer to join as module lead with 12.5 fix CTC and annual incentive plan which is not clearly mentioned in offer letter. My joining date is 31st October so as per company policy anyone joining after 1st oct won't be eligible for appraisal cycle nor for annual incentive plan..which makes my package 12.5 lacs for next one and a half year.
Not sure if it would be a wise decision, current CTC is 9.08 lacs Mercer

I have a prepared diatribe on “legal reform” for the account types I will not work on. The way this usually goes is PM assigns, I say no -> boss calls -> around about 3 sentences in, eyes glaze over and boss says “fine” -> PM assigns to someone else. I probably could get this down to 2 sentences if I come out with some strong statistics, now that I think of it. “1 in 5 US families will experience….” it’s already been reassigned. If boss pushes, I have a second historical diatribe “Back in 1963 when Senators (x y and z) proposed….” now no one will ever ask me to work on this again.
In my experience, sticking to well researched ethics pays off. The shining example of my career was turning down a handsomely paid Fentanyl campaign before this was a household known term. I have never regretted this decision; in short order I was reassigned a well respected children’s asthma brand. Not only do peers respect when you stick to your guns, but you end up respecting yourself- that’s what counts.
Thank you, this was uplifting. The friend in question specifically accepted this agency because there wasn't much work with an alcohol brand and her ACD had no issue with her background. She wasn't assigned by her direct, moreso she's just good at this specific deliverable and wants to let them know that in the future she'd rather not.
We've absolutely had people that refuse to work on certain types of products. Tobacco is a famous one, but I also had my ECD ask if I was comfortable working on a chicken client.
I get it, chicken is kinda controversial.
This day and age? Uhhh maybe just do it. I was doing shit for oil companies at one point, loathed every minute of it
Yeah, this is terrible advice C1. If you're not comfortable working on certain types of accounts, then don't.
Yes, it’s possible. I’ve done it with no retaliation.
Of course she can. Cheers to that!
Just suck it up and do it.

Yes. There's no reason you should have to work on something that's against your principles, within reason.
It sounds like this has been resolved, but yes. She should speak with her direct manager to remind them of her stance and they should be able to make that clear to anyone who needs to know. At least on my team, no one should be assigning actual deliverables to someone on my team without me at least being aware, much less submitting a formal request for a resource that I have to assign anyway.
A really good point. I was thinking similarly but couldn't quite explain it but this helped. Her direct should be able to make that clear to anyone submitting a request for a project. I'm presuming this happened initially without her manager informed properly. I'll def let her know what you said too. THank you!
I don't do gambling and I don't do pharma. They just assign the job to someone else - it's never been an issue for me before.
I wouldn’t do it. A lot has changed in the last decade.
Oh cool! That's refreshing to hear. Yeah she's awesome tbh, definitely talented, she just gets nervous voicing herself a bit lol so i thought i'd get some advice to be helpful for her because I have no idea how to navigate it. Thank you!!
I refuse to work on Pharma accounts and have expressed it many times. Bigger agencies will always have a resource pool, but smaller shops may be in a tighter spot if you do it. Sticking to your principles is ultimately the best thing to do, but there may be consequences in certain situations. Just be prepared.
Unfortunately I've learned that perception matters, but it can be used to your advantage. Because if you are perceived as a "high performer" they'll be more likely to not make as big of a fuss and place you somewhere that works to both your and the client's advantage. Good luck to your friend!
