You can test for specific diseases/disorders. And it doesn't give you an absolute answer unless there is a mutation. But helps you to understand if you're at a higher risk of getting some disease. It helps to know so that you can take steps/change lifestyle to prevent it. Some common ones are breast cancer etc. Not sure if insurance covers it

I think if it is medically necessary for treatment it should be covered in some capacity. Genetic testing is very pricey, though, and testing just to "check" likely won't get approved. When I talked to my insurance before I started infertility testing, they said they would cover IVF but limited genetic testing. It's weird. I'd call your provider and ask about your specific testing needs before you end up paying out of pocket. Hope you're ok and it's nothing serious!
Genetic testing is not that pricy, about $1000 or less. Particularly if you have family history of certain diseases.
$200 for 23andme.com - was easy, and I know more about my ancestry than I did (and that I have zero disease indicating mutations).
