Not an LLM grad, but a US associate at a V10 firm — I’ve heard that LLM hiring prospects are deader than dead at the moment. It may be different for Canadian lawyers give the different visa requirements, but I would get hard data before moving forward.
I’m a dual citizen though so don’t need a visa.
You don’t need an LLM to practice in the states that matter. Your Canadian JD is good on its own.
Thank you! I think my thought was more that it would help me prep for the bar exam. I know that other Canadians I know have had difficulty getting hired after taking the bar exam. Thought that the LLM might help with employment prospects but maybe I'm wrong.
