Question for the hiring managers or recruiters !!
Someone applying who is wanting to relocate to the location or the role you are hiring, is that something you guys will not consider or will be the reason to eliminate them?

What are some red flags you've noticed in the hiring process? I've finally landed an interview after weeks of applying. I think it went well on my end, but something about the managers I spoke with just feels...off.

So, a recruiter gave me feedback that my lack SPHR or SHRM-SCP is causing my resume to be knock out by AI and human recruiters despite my position and work history in Multinationals and being in Technology. They suggested that we put SPHR ( Lapsed). I let it lapse in 2017. What is your opinion? Plus if I were to take another certification - should I take SPHR or SHRM-SCP?

I am a licensed attorney in State A, I just passed the CA bar and will be swearing in soon. My law firm will only pay for one active membership. Is there any reason why I should pay the yearly fees in State A to keep myself active if I’m not actually practicing state law? Do I still need to do State A CLE if I choose not to pay?

I have a state job and recently I was nominated by my boss to be selected for a two-year certification curriculum as a Certified Public Manager. Has anyone had experience with the particular certification? Is it lucrative to take it or would it be a waste of time? I work for the State because it gives me more time with my family but as I am sure you can understand, I would like to make more money. Would a C.P.M. help me in that pursuit?

I’m struggling to motivate myself to seek out more work by talking to other partners or coming up with ideas for articles and other non-billable work. I just finished my first full year at my firm and got close to hitting my billable requirement but fell a little short. Had a death in the family and my mom has been sick, which was distracting. Covid stopped travel billing for court/depo. Firm said I will not get a bonus OR a raise next year if I don’t hit hours. I understand the bonus part, but shouldn’t raises be based on tenure/seniority? I still do great work for the firm and clients are happy. Just curious what other firms do for raises.

Online Tax LLM - Worth it?

I’m transferring over to the taxation division in my state AGs office. I have really limited tax experience, but I always have had some interest in tax policy and practice (even if tax law is for those who didn’t quite have the personality to be accountants 😜).

Being a proponent of continuing ed and looking to improve my future stock, would doing an online LLM program part time be worth it?

Weird question- or confessional (unsure tbh)- do any of you ever play hooky? I billed all weekend (7 year atty in ID) and today is wicked weather in the south so I’m “wfh” but not really. I didn’t have time for Sunday scaries but now I’m having Monday guilts, as I cope by watching my dogs sleep and watch the GOT prequel out of the corner of my eye while going through emails. It’s not a monthly thing but I’m just tired. Thinking it speaks to my immaturity and hopefully not my job trajectory?

Does your firm do anything for yearly work anniversaries? It’s obviously not a big deal but I made it to a year at a firm with high attrition (at least ten associates in our division alone have left in my time here) and have received no acknowledgement of this fact. I've really focused in my area of law, it's profitable and decent jobs. I'm just getting ready to move to a new firm because I believe my current firms economics aren't really that great / stable (it's a 4 year start up that just had it's first profitable month). I just feel that because I'm so specialized that my job options are kinda limited.
