Since, apparently, every thing, statement and opinion offered today is racist, can we restart with like a new word so that everyone can know when things really are racist? NOTHING racist about creating rules around who is allowed to enter our country, argue over the rules but once the law is written, those are the rules until you re-write them. Sorry your country is in bad shape but the answer is NOT to gather thousands of your friends and march to the US. For those saying, we should go fix the other country’s issues...what? You want us to be those imperialists that impose our will on another country...slow down. Immigration is wonderful (that’s probably a racist statement somehow) just need to wait in line like the rest.
Half of the people here should really go out and talk to people who got birthright citizenships. Maybe this will open up many minds.
UK economy is nothing compared to our economy and we can actually benefit from it.
No one is getting birthright citizenship to scam the system. In return we get more tax revenue for this country which is beneficial to EVERYONE.
D2: I believe the term is “you broke it, you fix it”. The US did plenty in Latin America to cause the current problems.
D1: what you are suggesting is impractical. US cannot intervene in the affairs and attempt to solve every nation's political issues.
What I am proposing is intended to limit the incentive to come to US just to give birth to a baby and claim birth right citizenship.
Typical blame America for everything mindset. So CIA meddling to prevent the spread of communism means we are forever obligated to take care of half the world?
Well RSM, it’s either that or keep wasting money on border control and sending the military to the border.
This may shock you, but creating more prosperous countries to the south would ultimately mean they more strongly sit in our sphere of influence and could buy things we sell them. And not keep losing their young people to gang violence and refugee caravans.
K1, what is the principle behind you wanting to change the 14th amendment, what problems is it really causing in the US? Your proposal is trying to fix a problem that doesnt exist.
The above article happened to appear in today’s NY Post, which is right leaning paper, but given the debate I thought I would share it given the above thread
TM, sorry I am not White. My point is if America goes down to the path of the party of Detroit laid out, in 20 years I can fuck a white liberal girl for 20 bucks equivalent . Black for 5.

Ideal solution: intervene in the various countries to put a stop to the conditions that cause people to flee for their lives.
Ideal solution is to deny them entry and have people like k1 quit their current jobs and make them work the farms and low wage kitchen jobs
BCG1: That sounds like a medication for ornery old people. Which might also be a good solution...
Tax Manager 1 - I don’t think it is fair to paint ending birth right citizenship as a racist issues. That may be a component but the UK did it more because they had problems with people coming there an immediately seeking welfare. It was costing them a significant amount of money and it was not productive immigration. The hospital where my daughter was born is called the Portland. It is solely a birthing hospital. Very special place. People fly in from all over the world to have their babies there because of the care - so just because these babies parents flew in and have birth in the US or the UK in my example they should have citizenship. Then once the child has it, the parents are eligible. Once the parents are citIzens they can bring their parents. There are real arguments as to why people didn’t like this. However it would be a constitutional change
TM1. Exactly why would ending birthright citizenship be racist? It would impact immigrants from every country not just Mexico.
I don’t think ending birthright is racist. But I also think we should reject citizenship for anyone who is shown to be unamerican. That’d be a fun change
A1 what does that even mean? Sounds suspiciously like Stalin's enemies of the revolution. Have something to confess, comrade?
A1. Just to clarify, you'd like to see a process to revoke citizenship? If that's correct, what kinds of actions would you envision it invoked for?
What's the argument for ending the 14th amendment other than you don't like the individuals receiving birth right citizenship? The 14th amendment is causing no issues in the US.
I am not personally suggesting we move to what the UK has. I don’t want to be Europe. I was commenting on it as it was similar to what was mentioned above.
However ASA2 - people use birth right to get citizenship in this country and then use that to get families in. It is where the racist term - anchor babies come from. Some argue that is scamming the immigration system.
Also, the UK taxes are much higher than in the US. We are a much wealthier nation than them but that is exactly the point as to why they couldn’t afford it.
Yes: D2 - the idea is to go and help those countries through aid and support. Not invade them. To help fix the underlying issues in those countries that is causing these folks to leave in the first place. Also, regarding them waiting in line to get here legally -I am all for legal immigration- it is what I wrote originally - but where do you suppose they wait in that line? Back home where they felt the better choice then staying home was to walk 2000 miles through Mexico to get to the US?
Thoughts on migrants rejecting Mexican asylum offer ? Should that impact our strategy ?
