From my limited experience a lot of insurance defense is doing extra due diligence for the carrier and verifying what they should pay or not pay. I look at it a lot like being a public defender your not necessarily there to “win” you’re there to follow the system and keep plaintiffs in check.
I think it also largely depends on the adjuster/claim rep and plaintiffs attorney. Some adjusters will throw money at a claim just to make it go away and others will not give up a penny unless overwhelmingly convinced they need to.
Then you get plaintiffs and plaintiff attorneys that overvalue their claims will fight to the bitter end trying to get what their client “deserves”.
