Their promotions are based on merit
Reached the target audience right here
Bain, anecdotally, is the most fratty of the three, and gets a larger % of their revenue from PE, doesn't have the same scale and breadth of offerings, all of which, lends to more of the same types of people/leaders rising to the top.
One theory, from Lawrence Summers, which he got lampooned for many years ago, but has some merit, as to one reason why women are underrepresented in some really demanding fields, is that women are just statistically less likely to want to sacrifice their lives to a job.
Obviously some do, just statistically he thinks it's a smaller number.
I don't know if this is actually true, but it's plausible.
I never said I wasn't interested in other perspectives
If you read the way I constructed my comment, I think it's pretty obvious that I'm not coming from a point of absolutes
However, I do understand that the position I expressed is one that is often not tolerated (see what happened to Larry Summers after he said that) so I'm not sure the inverse is true
Role models. This job is tough enough, but if you are a minority at work and looking up you see no one like you, no one who understands your lived reality, it just makes it harder.
That is one of many reasons.
17% of MDPs at BCG are women so this isn’t a uniquely Bain problem. I don’t even know if we can easily find detail on POC, which tells you the stats are probably abysmal.
I think even if someone isn’t directly managed out, these businesses are so heavily sponsor driven to make it to the top, and often sponsors sponsor someone similar to themselves.
The only black Senior Partner in Boston is a lateral… it says a lot that we have to consolidate the latin and black affinity groups
Pipeline is more ug focused where there are lot more domestic candidates. Bain has less international presence, hence less imports.
