I’d say. If your senior walks through a work paper with you, make sure you take notes. I absolutely hate it when I need to give the same instructions repeatedly on the same thing (clarification is fine).

Judging by posts here, a staff one mistake would be doing audit.
Asurrance Associate OP: one track mindset meaning that sometimes more than solution can solve a problem. to answer your second question it varies; some staff are more seasoned due to their background and life experiences. an example of being thorough can involve identifying a gap and providing a plausible solution instead of just following a method without looking further.

Common mistakes are acceptable throughout the first year I think. We start having more expectations after your first busy season.
Agreed...I expect Staff 1’s to make mistakes, they are brand new. The whole year is a learning process.
Being too task oriented and not applying knowledge to subsequent engagements.
