I guess it depends how the actual conversation goes. It is normal to have a conversation about where you currently are as a business and where you are headed and also setting some goals. If there are layoffs coming and a reorg, then yea, she may want to talk about who to cut, which is also normal. It’s unfortunate, but it is normal to talk to leaders about who will potentially be getting cut during the layoff. Sure, you won’t talk about that stuff to lower level employees, but yea, you do have the conversation with senior management, directors, VPs.

Personally, I try and collect as much data as possible and take a listening approach. It might be headed in a different direction than you think, so best to keep an open mind to understand what’s really going on with the company. Also, if it impacts your own job, although it does suck, at least you are in the loop and you are aware now. Better to know these things now than later so that you are prepared. In case your job is impacted, you have some time to start looking at other opportunities.
Yes that’s normal. Use it as a chance to uplift your team.
That’s normal. If you have had performance appraisals of your staff, she will most likely read them to see how they’re doing. Then use your comments to gain a better perspective on the team.
