Considering applying to Alix Partners at the SVP level. For those at AP or those from S& that moved to AP. What are the Pros and Cons you have experienced so far? Ultimately, the motivation is towards having a more sustainable and successful consulting career.

Yeah I think we have some good things going on and I hope we are more known for things other than high comp.

1) no up or out and sales target - imagine what this does to your mental health
2) hours are close to b4 than MBB. I’ve averaged around 45-50 hours a week over 10 years I have been here (pre COVID)
3) no office culture which means Fri is mine. I’m usually done by noon or don’t work at all on Fri (this might be minus for some who want a
sense of community)
4) less politics and bs. I feel very respected as a senior, experienced professional

All this makes AP a healthy place to build/sustain your consulting career.

I think I was talking from my personal perspective. I have no intention of becoming an MD so I started to invest less in those activities.

1) Our MDs are killers when it comes to selling
2) There are many senior directors trying to make MD too and they spend a lot of time with BD. Career directors like myself pitch in here and there too. Probably 60-65% of consultants are Director, so this has a meaningful impact and offsets someone like me.
3) Viewpoints - some groups invest in this more than others but in general, we are behind on this. But this is not how we sell projects.
4) I pitch in in recruiting too but our recruiting is much more targeted (instead of trying to hire so many VPs). Majority of hires come from referrals and is specific to practice group. I think this reduces time requirements for everyone. Maybe this is something that needs to change as we try to build more brand equity at bschools.

M1 is so wrong it is not even funny. Alix has an industry low voluntary attrition. I don’t know how it compares to Strategy& but I like it way more than Kearney (where I came from) - it’s so much more sustainable then Kearney because I no longer have bs “magic time” firm building requirements. Oh and I added 20% to my compensation as well.

I think more the former. I know a few PEPI folks and have tried to recruit them but they seem very happy at A&M.

Nothin sustainable about Alix, culture there is churn and burn baby

likefunny

M1 is so far off. This is an amazing place to work with really low attrition.

Have heard similar things to Alix 1. From folks I’ve talked to, they really enjoy it. Also, I don’t think they have a true up or out model so may make it more sustainable as a career

likeuplifting

Alix is a good place if you want to be a consultant lifer. You will work your ass off and will travel in basically all projects (pre-COVID).

Well if you like the Consulting lifestyle you will be fine. Compensation is also on the higher end. Becoming a partner is much harder here than other firms in my opinion.

How many times has an interviewer no-showed and the recruiter profusely apologizing on their behalf?
Happened to me with Mindtree recruiter, for an IoT leadership position where the interviewing VP chose to no show twice… after which I thanked the recruiter that I was impressed by their book of busi-ness and that it was intimidating to be thinking about the prospect of working for Mindtree… as I’m too incapable for those performance standards… 😂😂

Hey everyone. I found out we are expecting our first child and I’m really nervous. I got into consulting one year ago and I’m up for promotion this year. With timing of our performance conversations I would have to inform I’m pregnant before outcomes - then shortly after the promotion effective date I would go on a leave for due date. I’ve worked really hard and I’m worried our wonderful news will throw chances with this :(- also if I don’t get promoted pretty sure it’s up or out. Any advice?

I am interviewing at a Production Studio and it’s going well. The majority of my experience is agency side. They mentioned base salary with commission, as they want to see growth in the next 3-5 years. There has been no talk of salary yet. What does a base salary for an EP with commission usually look like in this role? What should I be asking for? I don’t want to give up my current salary, but I think this job would be such a great fit for me. Advice?
