Get as fast as you can in excel. Idk you’ll be fine, just got to grind.
Did an internship in banking before moving to consulting
Hierarchy is a much bigger thing there, don’t expect to be talking to clients very much. Make sure when you send emails you put the most senior person first etc. Learn to prioritise as you’ll be staffed on multiple things
How did you do this. Goals.
This^
I’m curious about how you made this move. Did you have prior experience during consulting?
I hope it's worth it...the grass always looks greener on the other side
Curious as to why you’re switching from Consulting to IB?
Yep...accurate

As a former banker and analyst staffer for a bulge bracket I would reiterate that hierarchy is very important. The order of names in emails is important. Who you go to for questions first is important (google, your other fellow analysts, google, bing, associate - never anyone more sr). Don’t expect to have any interaction with clients if you’re in a coverage team, you’ll probably get some exposure if you’re in a capital markets team. Also unlikely you will get MD interaction as well. Your associate/VP will be the one managing you and any emails that go to a Director or MD will usually be sent from them, not you. Excel is king, not PowerPoint. You should know how to understand old models and what formatting colors mean (ie blue cells are for inputs, black font formulas). It’s kind of a grind and workload can be very volatile so don’t expect constant work during specific hours. Fast responses are expected and if you will be out of pocket tell your team. It’s a great learning experience and will hopefully set you up for exit ops. But also keep in mind that it is a very small world and anyplace PE or IB related you want to go will contact your group and ask for references through their network.
