If you’re white like me it’s so important to realize that we were raised in a society where institutionalized racism is normalized, and we were born with privilege. You can’t choose the color of your skin, but you can choose to put ego aside and reflect on why this isn’t happening to me, and be vocal about being anti-racist.

Whatever your thoughts are of this dude, I thought this was a unique take of his that I agreed with that pertains to this post.
Food for your neurons.
(I feel like I’m currently in the “presenting ideas they think client will buy” and it’s soul crushing.)
Your portfolio can tell the difference. And your next job and pay check can tell the difference. If you are doing good work, keep cranking it out until you’re ready to make a move and cash in.
Ngl I’d rather be a lazy low performer with no recognition but making good money then going the extra mile and getting same lol
Do the bare minimum and fail upwards.
I feel like your premise might be that it’s the norm in our industry to expect recognition, promotion and rewards. But I think that’s been eroding (since 2018ish?).
With Video Creators being the conduit and AI diminishing creative pay in general,
I would say show them what you bring that Creators and AI tools can’t.
Those are bold words from someone with possibly the most AI replaceable job title in this thread
The unpleasant answer is that leadership usually *does* reward what makes a difference. You may just have a different perception of what that is, either because what makes your shop succeed is not the kind of ideas you value, or because your ideas aren’t as great as you think they are.
Either way, look for a gig at an agency that focuses on the kind of creativity you value. Either you’ll find the home you need to grow, or you’ll learn you aren’t quite there yet.
This is a shit answer
Are you selling your bold ideas or just bringing them to the table? Because if you’re bringing the bold ideas and actually making them, some other agency’s leadership probably will notice
Most of the time it’s not us who SELL the work.
The conventional “it costs more to hire than to retain” wisdom doesn’t hold in this industry. Instead, agencies accept a next-man-up mentality—when you decide it’s time to get what you deserve they’ll replace you with someone leaving the agency down the street looking to get what they deserve.
