I don’t know if it’s common. The body of the message with the “following up” subject line was crafted to make it sound like we had talked previously. I’ve also received emails suggesting that they were responding to something I requested, which in no way could be true. Just don’t do that.
I do, too. This was not that. Hence the cringe.
If you’re referring to emails or LinkedIn messages, I only receive those subject lines from vendors whose emails or messages I ignored in the first place; and they’re checking to see if I’ve read the initial message.
I’ve never received a cold email/ message like that from someone pretending like we’ve had a legitimate conversation. Is that a common thing?
I hate those things. I am in sales and was once advised to start my subject line with "RE" even in a new email. I refused; I am not starting a relationship with a lie.
For those who don’t perhaps like being sold to, or receiving emails, how do you prefer to receive sales content? What peaks your interest?
Honest and direct messaging via email or DM are fine. There should be some type of value added and it should be fairly direct communication.
