The discount will depend on the property if you’re looking for anything other than a small standard % discount. I used to try DTC / ACC / IBM / ATT and found those to, generally, have the best results. But as said, the best discounts are property-specific, so it’s smart to try multiple.
I’ve been asked to present a proof a handful of times before, mostly outside of the US. “I’m here for an interview and X told me to use this” usually works, as does “I’m an external consultant for them.” Dressing the part (e.g. not in beach attire at check in) and having high status helps too.
All the large global consulting companies have the highest. Large corporations have the highest in the cities where they have hubs.
If it’s for personal travel and you get caught, they may ask you to pay the prevailing rate. However if it’s for work, think about how it will look if you company came to know about it.
It’s a hypothetical question you ask yourself before acting while you’re on business representing your company.
Consequences can range from nothing to being made to pay the rack rate to having your loyalty account suspended… you do you.
DTC is usually the strongest in my experience.
