Currently at Apple making a total of $270,000 but have to be in Silicon Valley. Pay is good, but don’t love what I’m doing. Growth potential for more money is likely. But living cost is high here.

Have an opportunity to make $240,000 fully remote, to do more interesting work, that I believe I’ll enjoy more. Can probably move to a less expensive market, but still in CA.

Thoughts?

Definitely stay to see your vesting through. That Apple stock cash could set you up really nicely. Depending on your life goals and amount of money you get from the stocks you could probably just do freelance and have a way better work/life balance.

Wait for those stocks to vest, and if you’re still unhappy, leave with a pile of cash. Unless you can negotiate a signing bonus that would make up for it.

I'm a creative and still, take the fucking money u dummy. Tech work is way more lax than agency side, you can go out and enjoy life. What kind of sicko finds self worth in ADVERTISEMENTS.

The taxes and housing is so expensive in Cupertino that you’re bleeding way wayyy more than the 30k difference.

Id definitely consider taking the 240, making cool work and buying a house abroad / in an up and coming lower cost of living US city (Austin, Nashville, Pittsburgh, Etc… even chicago is significantly cheaper).

But if you love the NorCal lifestyle I get it, it’s a fun place to be. Just do what everyone does and get a 50 year mortgage.

like

Enjoying the work more is a plus. The 30k you’d be sacrificing will be the equivalent of your yearly housing costs up in The Valley. So IMO is basically a wash there. Question becomes will new place be as good with raises long term.

like

Take the new job. $240 remote and happy more than makes up for that $30k. But on your way out, might you drop off my resume?

funny

The remote role would be a CD.

like

I’ve taken similar pay cuts. If you want to live somewhere else or do something else, I really don’t think the $30k is gonna make your daily life noticeably different. Plus you’d get a CD title, right? You could always parlay that into a higher salary for your next move after the new job.

like

Take the money. Do other stuff with it that satisfy you.

like

Wait till your stocks are vested. Future you will thank you. More opportunities will come your way.

like

It will literally cost you 30k. What would you do with that 30k (every year) instead? Maybe think about investing that in personal projects that keep you creatively satisfied. I’d personally build myself a dope studio and work from there in my down time, writing music and then somehow eventually transition to make that my full time thing.

like

30k isn’t a huge difference at that level. I’d take the lower salary to pad my book

like

How long is vesting wait at apple?

4 years.

Totally unrelated but can I ask what you work on at apple? I’m a new art director hire starting in the next few months and looking for what to expect!

first world problems lol

Choose Apple. If there is room for growth then gut it out. You can make more money a year from now once your apple promotion happens.

It’s different topic, but can I ask you how I can be direct hired AD from Sr. Designer as a Vender? I totally understand the work at apple is really specific and it could be auto pilot at some points. I’m curious how you made a decision!

So, if you work at TD, Scotia, RBC, could you let everybody know in the comments what’s the deal for each? Are you remote, on-site, hybrid of some sort?

Recruitment can’t tell me what feedback is creating this gap but also won’t stop mentioning the positive praise and feedback the team had for me.

Hey folks. Question for the majority of us still under the big 3 holding co’s...are raises a thing anymore? I’ve been at my (smaller) agency almost 5yrs and got one raise (a nice $12k bump) during that time—is that sufficient? Is one increase in that span normal? I also recognize being somewhere 5 years is rare these days. The honeymoon period at any agency seems to be 2.5—3yrs before bolting. Not complaining, just asking. Have y’all been getting raises/bumps in any kind of regular cycle? Thx.
