There are lay offs but it won't 'preventive' as in the company would need to be in real troubles. Being fired base on performance is extremely rare as well.
Provided that’s a zurich big 4 outside of its strategy BU, I’d guesstimate around 85k-95k base plus 5% for a M role.
For a SM role I would say around 95k-115k base plus 5%.
If it’s a strategy BU, add between 10k to 20k.
Estimates provided are in CHF and not in USD or EUR.
This sounds low…big 4 M in US in non strategy role is at least 150K in US nowadays. Is CH really a 40% decrease?
That’s the first I’ve heard that, what you quoted is more what I would expect from UK or EU countries…thought CH was closer to on par with US?
Very much everything is different in labour laws. Website like glassdoor should help for salary. Bear in mind the social insurance benefit, holidays (that you are obliged to take or they pay you), and the job security.
Also, remember that 94% of the population is earning less than CHF 150k.
RoE chf/usd was inverted not long ago so 1 for 1 comparison is very difficult to do.
Layoffs happen in Switzerland but not as frequent as in the US. Switzerland is not like much of Europe, its very easy for employers to get rid of employees. However, the state picks up the bill
I understand that 1:1 salary comparison is not possible. Just wanted to understand what is it living like in the Zurich?
For the reference: I am in NY office living in northern NJ with 200K, which is comfortable.
Honestly, I'd say anything around chf 140k gross salary will be fine. I can imagine that if they bring you from the US you'll have the expat bonus and additional perks. If they can help you with housing (at least the first few month) it will be great as it can take ages to find something.
Groceries will be more expensive, going out pretty much the same, skiing cheaper, car is expensive but public transport + car rental works fine.
