PwC has provisionally cleared me to join the firm first week of Jan. What does this mean? Can I start working with them even if the background check is still running in parallel? Can I quit my current job and expect everything to be cool? They said it's taking them longer to verify education and previous employment. Both of which are international.

I assure you no one gives a single f*** what your occupation is. Act like a normal, decent human being and you'll have no problems wherever you go. Your geographic location doesn't factor into this in any way; if you're a slovenly, disrespectful, fascistic weirdo, you're not gonna be successful. It really is extraordinarily simple.
Tip #1: stop listening to Rogan and Peterson or anyone who identifies as an incel, PUA, or MGTOW, and start actually listening to women, and soon enough you'll find yourself back on easy mode.

Would recommend Singapore, Hong Kong, and Taipei.
Of course, you're all male SWEs West Coast, so go figure :)
I would wager OP is AMP-ing because having stayed over half a year in asia recently in A-list circles, I can assure you no one cares about SWE.
In fact, the stereotype is a balding middle aged uncle or skinny nerd. In asia, entrpreneur, senior management, net idol, and finance are the most respected, Saying you're SWE might get a compliment, "oh. so you're smart". But that's about it. Also, the most developed ones (China, Japan, Korea) prefer their own race.
tldr: being rich improves your chances greatly independent of occupation, but that's true anywhere.
