DEI departments on the chopping block. Especially outside of T20, law schools will need to cut to the bone.

Maybe law schools will have to charge reasonable tuition rates to keep enrollment from plummeting, which is not a bad thing. Part of the reason that tuition has skyrocketed is because there were no caps on borrowing and schools could charge whatever they wanted knowing that students could get PLUS loans to cover everything. As someone with over $200k in debt, I am not opposed to making law schools make their tuition rates more affordable. It’s a lot of stress to have six figures in debt hanging over your head.

I agree, the third year of law school is unnecessary or if they keep it, it should be utilized to train lawyers about practicing law by having them working at law offices as law clerks. My thought is that law firms that agree to train up 3rd years could get CLE credit for doing so.

I don’t think this is going to result in lower enrollment numbers or lower cost of attendance. Instead law students will just be forced to take out private loans to cover the difference.

It seems the loans would not be federally guaranteed and would not be BK-able.

Maybe the only good outcome of this bill tbh other than more money to $PLTR making me rich

“$20,500 per year and $100,000 annually”? Anyone else confused by that?

I think it's a $100,000 lifetime cap. Whoever wrote the article just made a mistake.

Good thing I graduate law school next year lol.

like

Good thing I graduated (a long time ago) too. My price tag easily exceeded the annual and lifetime maximums.

I know sticker price is ~60k+ but are schools actually charging that much on average? I.e. taking out all the scholarships etc. I'm guessing a lot of or most schools could just maintain the same revenue by lowering sticker price but decreasing scholarships accordingly - and we may see scholarship amounts just get a lot more stingy next few years.

Fast forward to last week, the talent POC calls me up and informs that she has asked the business if the position is still open, because now they just need the business approval to roll out the offer. I immediately felt demotivated as to ‘why now’ after all rounds have been cleared (continued in the comment below)
