Asking for my girlfriend. She has 3 years of experience doing service desk type work and really enjoys being in IT. But is unhappy with her current pay (under 55k). Is it common to negotiate software engineer salary at smaller companies? I know it’s common at FAANG, but what about for companies with around 200 engineers? How does one most effectively make the transition into management from an Individual Contributor?

I've been an individual contributor for 4 years in Tech, have 8 years of experience total. I'm finding it difficult to make the management transition despite having management experience, performing beyond expectations, and having a genuine passion for enablement and development.

I'd appreciate any success stories or pointers you can offer in regards to this transition.

I’ve been offered a reporting consultant job for less than 60k and I bring 9+ years of experience to the role. They should be offering more. I don’t want to settle but I don’t want to miss an opportunity to move. Reporting consultants should start at $65k per recruiting sites. Any advice? How can I get HR/recruiters to offer more? TIA

Had my annual review Friday (first year with the company). Boss awarded a 3% raise though she said my review was “90% positive.” Worth adding I got a 3% sign on bonus last year, so I’m basically at 0% raise. Nobody under me has gotten less than a 7% raise in the past year. Considering promotions + counter offers as well, it goes as high as 25%. I don’t feel a 3% raise matches a “90% positive” review and plan to bring up the cognitive dissonance I’m feeling. Any other tips or advice to add?

Need some feedback! So I was forced to move jobs about 6 months ago due to reorg and the new leader opting to bring their existing EA with them, without even meeting me. If stayed at the company but accepted an offer for a job outside of the department I was in. I’ve now been asked by a manager from my old department to apply for a job they’re opening that would be a 2 step promotion. She thought she got my managers permission to approach me (see comments)

Started work at Accenture a month ago. I was interviewing for McKinsey at the same time and have just now got an offer. I want to leave Accenture. One of the reasons I want to transition from industry to consulting (tier 1) is that I get frustrated when I have to collaborate with mediocre people. My assumption is that Tier 1 consulting firms hire really sharp people and if I can get in, I’ll be collaborating with folks on top of their game (not expecting much from clients). I’m aware there are personal aspects I need to work on like my mindset, patience etc etc, but I just get so frustrated with blatant stupidity.
