Yup. Many times in this scenario it’s genetic
Limiting dietary cholesterol doesn’t help most people : https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/22037012/
In fact, for a lot of people a high fat low carb diet improves the RATIO of “good” to “bad” cholesterol. https://scholar.google.com/scholar?q=ketogenic+diet+cholesterol+pubmed&hl=en&as_sdt=0&as_vis=1&oi=scholart#d=gs_qabs&u=%23p%3DDcBkjuMsploJ Fair warning that many physicians do not approve of a ketogenic diet for reasons that are not strongly supported by evidence.
Did intermittent fasting that helped to reduce weight and cholesterol
Yes genetic, same here. Took statins for a while because my aunt (a doc) recommended I take it. My family physician however said you don’t owing to your age (35 M) and talked about some study where he said the benefits were not significant when you are young. If your cholesterol continuous to the stay same say at 45-50 ish then you can.
Yup. Same issue. Still refusing from the meds. I got my ldl from 200 to less than 150. Still continuing to work on it by Trying to eat clean. Go on a straight up fish diet for the next 2 months. Will make a huge difference
Side note - read through some interesting research on how statins affects moods and aggression
Pro
I think you also have to be careful of the types of fats youre eating, reduce the Amt of saturated fats you’re having (and try to avoid trans fat). And increase your soluble fiber intake. Try to also increase your fish/omega 3 intake.
Try that for a month or 2 (ideally on the longer side) and then get another cholesterol test done.
Cholesterol is not an issue, inflammation is. Ask your doctor to check your inflammation marker (CRP). If that is good you can discuss and get off the statins. If not then only way to reduce that is through intemittwnt fasting to control your insulin level

I'm glad a few people are mentioning this (others are talking about outdated information)
You can't say it's genetic until you are physically fit and have low body fat percentage, and eat properly and hold at high fitness level for several months. There are people who carry extra weight without high cholesterol. But you don't know everything about their diet and life style.
As SG1 and M1 mentioned, high cholesterol can be fixed for nearly everyone but a very few.
Carbs get turned into cholesterol by your liver. We literally have a diabetes epidemic in the USA. I am literally using the word literally intentionally. There are millions of Americans with undiagnosed diabetes. Also "pre-diabetes" is just diabetes.
The medical community is starting to come around to this. Go get your A1C tested by a lab. You don't even need a doctor. It costs no more than $50 private pay.
Or go get a $20 glucose tester from Walgreens. Test your glucose immediately after walking up. If it's higher than 100 you officially have diabetes. That's the new guidance. In reality, if it's above 90 when you wake up and after not eating for 8 hours, I would be worried.
The way to fix high cholesterol is by first losing all your extra weight and then reducing your insulin resistance.
Also type 2 diabetes is treatable for most people by (very) strict diet and exercise. No matter how hard that is, it's better than being dependent on daily medicine for the rest of your life.
My triglycerides have always been at the max reading even when I’m top athletic shape. Lipitor helps, but a doctor once told me my particular profile is genetic and is usually not the same risk as people with a high reading due to diet and weight.
Is your cholesterol mass or particle count high? Lots of people (myself included) have high mass (LDL-C or the default LDL) when the particle count is actually good (LDL-P or ApoB). It’s the particles that cause heart disease. For many people, reducing carbs helps most. For some, reducing saturated fats does help.
Daily oatmeal and exercise has greatly helped reduce my cholesterol

I'm glad it helped you. But eating oatmeal hasn't been advised since the early 1990s. Those studies in the 1980s that recommended oatmeal were funded by the agro businesses.
In fact, reducing carbs and total calories is what doctors say today. As others have said today, fasting and intermittent fasting work.
I have this exact issue. I was able to get from 209 to 140 in 3 months. I went (mostly) vegan and exercised 5 times a week. I refuse to take the meds at my age tho. This is also probably my last consulting stint as the traveling lifestyle doesn’t allow me to focus on my health
I went pescetarian (no meat but fish) and I take psyllium husk at night, my understanding is that it helps bond with the cholesterol and sweep it out of your system. Have been on the decline since then.
Personally I would explore every possible natural remedy before going on pharma meds. Seems like a band aid, for something like this it’s important to fix the problem.
