As a physician recruiter, I totally understand and support this. As long as your licensure and board certification hasn't lapsed, I would welcome you with open arms post sabbatical. Take it and don't look back.
I'd love to know this as well. I'm absolutely fried. Want to take 3-6 months away to evaluate what I want to do moving forward.
I transitioned to telemedicine (TeleICU specifically) I’ve been working from home, making more money, and have been so much happier. I get to spend more time with my family and I have a 10 second commute. I do plan to maintain some level of bedside work, but I do think making big transitions like this do affect the type of job we can get in the future. But as someone who really felt burnout, and now feeling alive again, it was the best decision.
It cost a few hundred bucks to start your own business/LLC, start one and say you worked for yourself/consulting etc, that way there is no lapse.
I had to take a sabbatical because I literally felt myself withering away. I have been off work for 5 months now and I’ve completely transformed my outlook. It’s time for a huge change in healthcare. I honestly don’t see myself ever going back to a clinic job.
Consider what you said. You work at Brigham and Women’s. That speaks volumes about your training, skills and intellect. Anyone, including B&W would be lucky to have you on your return. I’ll bet if you play your cards well with them you could get a paid sabbatical and come back to your former or a new role. Just my thoughts.
I switched to a new organization recently and took a 3 month sabbatical before starting my new role. In my experience, I have always taken 2-3 months between changes in employment to reset. Has had no impact on any opportunities for me
