You may want to not call a human being a "resource."
Tell them you're annoyed they're not available.
👆 yes. That "resource" shit drives me nuts. Makes me want to choke somebody with an exclamation point.
Before you talk to the person, it will be valuable for you to humanize the situation. Ask the person a direct question about their availability and state what you need from them. Keep it factual and not based on what you think the person is doing.
If you're working from home and people are expecting you to be online and available, you should be. Let them know they're needed.
I would definitely tell them the expectation you have of them when they are working from home. I work from home sometimes and when I do, it means I am glued to my computer working all day and answering emails or calls right away. I hate when others make working from home look bad. Just yesterday someone told me they were working from home with air quotes today which means I will be doing a lot more work because they are having fun while not losing pto. Also I like "concept units" more than "resource."
AMD nailed it. Always nice to let your manager why you're WFH, too, and be in touch about your availability. Like, "hey I'm WFH because the kid is sick. I'm on computer, but we got a Drs appointment at 10:00, but my phone is on. Blah blah blah. Totally reasonable.
If it's a regular occurrence and they aren't sharing times they won't be available causing them to work from home, next time they ask say no because they aren't actually working
