RAD1 that’s so not the point. This isn’t about ideas at all, it’s about people not recognizing writing as creativity and don’t refer to writers as creatives as a result. Which is, well, wrong.
It's a small comment, but it irks us writers. I think it's a perfect summation of what seems like a slow devaluation of copy within the industry.
"No one reads copy anymore."
They do if it's good.
"I'm an Art Director but I'm also a Copywriter." No, you're probably not.
"I'm not a writer, but I want ahead and made some tweaks and sent to the client."
Hey, I'm cool with collaboration, but come to me before you just make changes.
"There's a real lack of good copywriters nowadays."
Yeah, because everyone thinks they're one.
"Wanted to loop you in before I kick off with creative."
You mother fucker...
Some account people aren’t good at understanding things - like our buddy RAD1
A-fuckin-men @OP. This is a huge pet peeve of mine. Art + Copy = Creative. All of us. Why is this so complicated? I don't fn get it.
Regional Account Director sounds like it’s either a made up title someone gave you instead of firing you or one that means you’re just in charge of making mattress commercials.
Great ideas are born from different perspectives: like one that isn’t aware of the basic structure of the agency.
Ok idiots. From now on all strategists are plumbers and all RADs work in IT. Cool?
As a CW, it Irritates the hell out of me when people think "creative" means the designers / art directors, especially when 80% of the time I came up with the concept.
Assistant to the Regional Account Director
I'd say this is a pretty rad thread
Where do you work that writers aren’t consider creatives? That’s the first time I’ve ever heard this
Weird. I’ve always referred to “creative” as both ADs/CWs
To be fair, they will ask this of all departments for different meetings. It’s ok - it’s an opportunity to educate instead of letting ego get in the way and being angry about it.
It’s inane to you, while it’s something I’ve heard and HAVE actively brought up to the fools that say shit like this...for years. Cuz I’ve been in this industry, surviving...for years. So all due respect, shut up.
Every account person knows copywriters are creatives so this one was clearly intending to burn you
@Director 2, I think I get what you mean. Perhaps it could be paraphrased by this scene?

Great account people are an invaluable asset to creatives. Too bad there aren’t enough of them.
That’d be like saying to an account exec, “should we get someone from account in this meeting?” It just doesn’t make sense.
Gut them
Good god, RAD1, you are not a rad one by any means
