Do hospitals and other facilities have the capability to selectively export or print certain types of information in the patient’s electronic medical record? For example, can the hospital produce a report of when a patient was turned or repositioned, separate from all the other stuff that was going on during the admission? Or a report of the patient’s weight each time she was weighed? Or do EMR systems only allow printing of all records in chronological order?

Interesting question. I would assume that as long as information is input into a database, the information can be sorted any number of ways. Now, the average used may not have permissions to do that, as it may not be necessary to do in everyday practice. But in theory, sure, if the data exists, it most likely can be sorted and thus exported.

Thanks… My question is about whether the EMR software provides the capability through its user interface, rather than if a data analyst or database administrator could access the data directly through the back-end.

I've never seen individual reports of just a patient's weights, or just a list of the repositioning times, but all of those things should be fairly easy to find in the nursing flowsheets, which are usually arranged by date and time. They might be able to produce the individual reports, but in 30 years of doing PIaintiff's PI, I have never actually attempted to request such reports. We always want the full medical records, including all of the flowsheets.

I have a hard time believing a jury would award 7-figure damages if they thought the little old lady defendant had to personally pay. I also take the driver seat for the grunt work on the firms bigger cases which are at or near 7 figure value. I constantly feel (cont.)
