Do recruiters care more about skills or years of experience? keep seeing job posts that ask for 8+ years but list responsibilities that any mid-level could do. When recruiters screen candidates, what really matters more — experience level or skill fit?

I feel like they care more about experience these days. It doesn't seem to matter how many degrees you have, or the skills you have. The experience is what seems to matter most.

Yes feels like the years of experience plays a critical role

If you are dealing with a reasonable recruiter, all that matters is the skills you have. They should be able to work through a few years off if you bring everything they are asking to the table.

That is true. When there are so many candidates who have the skills AND experience already, they aren’t even given a chance.

I hold a Master’s Degree in Law (Jurisprudence) from the University of Bari “Aldo Moro”, with a thesis on Corruption and Public Administration: from the darkness of power to transparency (108/110 cum laude).
I later completed a Postgraduate Program in Corporate Finance and Banking at Vistula University in Warsaw, where I focused on financial markets, corporate governance, and risk management. I am currently pursuing a Second-Level Master in Public Administration Innovation at Pegaso University.

I’m a native Italian speaker, fluent in English, and have earned several certifications in Artificial Intelligence and digital innovation in Italy.

My professional experience includes roles both in the public and private sectors. I served as City Councillor for Legal, Transparency, and Tax Affairs in the Municipality of Crispiano, drafting and revising bylaws, resolutions, and amendments. I also completed a legal internship in the Municipality of Martina Franca, where I prepared and reviewed official documents, conducted legal research, and assisted in administrative procedures.

Currently, I work as an Operations Customer Expert at Teleperformance (Dyson project) in Athens, where I manage customer support through Salesforce CRM, handle warranty and complaint cases, and collaborate across departments to improve processes and customer experience.

Throughout these experiences, I have developed strong skills in legal drafting, compliance, governance, and communication. What I’m truly looking for now is a chance to put my background to use in a legal or corporate compliance position.

Sometimes it feels like no one gives you the opportunity to prove yourself — but how can anyone show what they’re capable of if they’re never given that first chance? I’m ready to take it.

I'm a cashier. We just got a new manager, and she's making things really hard for us. She starts work at 4:30am and leaves around 2:30pm, but she still expects us to stay until 6pm and work on the weekends! She gives us really long shifts and doesn't give us much time for breaks. And when we ask her about it, she gets mad.

I'm worried that if I speak up, she'll make my life even harder. I don't want to lose my job because of this—do you guys have any advice?

Curious if anyone else is or has been in the same boat. I started as an assistant at an entertainment law firm prior to passing the bar. Upon passing, the partner told me they would hire an assistant for me since I now became an associate. Is this normal in the entertainment world? Any suggestions?
