Do recruiting budgets even mean anything anymore? I always thought that was the max a prospective company would be able to pay. A friend of mine just negotiated $5K above the company’s budget and they actually got it, have I been selling myself short by just being happy with the budget ceiling?

I have been in client facing wealth management as an advisor for 10 years. I haven’t built a book of business because I’ve worked for mostly discount brokers (Merrill edge, TDA, Etrade). Is IB worth the sacrifice of WLB? Obvious pay is really good but are the prestige and pay worth it if you’re planning on only doing it for a couple years?
