Not true. In Finance /banking, you may be denied a job for bad credit. They def do a credit check
Credit and background checks are usually combined into one process.
It depends on how "bad" is bad. A recruiter told me that they are looking for bankruptcies, seriously delinquent things like child support, taxes, alimony. Things that speak to character.
If your credit is bad due to a heavy student debt load or medical debt, they tend to be more forgiving of that.
Bad credit, BK, etc. can definitely get you disqualified in financial services and related.

Yes and yes, lots of firms will deny jobs if you are in severe debt (usually not student) because it can cause a conflict of interest
