Meta technical solutions consultant interview prep - can someone let me know if they have gone through the technical rounds for Technical Solutions Consultant role? Can you share what to prepare for since it’s not a data science type of role so most likely not hard level MySQL questions. Any specific types of queries that I should learn? Thanks!

AWS cloud application architect. Had an on-site interview with AWS a few days ago and just got an email saying they want to talk to me about next steps. The role is cloud application architect but I want to ask them about the senior cloud application architect role. I have all the relevant experience for that role and feel like I’d be a better fit for that senior role. How should I approach this conversation? Is this even possible? Amazon

It can happen that people will develop a reputation for great work and they'll be sought out by other organizations. But that's not something anyone can count on, and in the early years of one's career you wouldn't have the kind of reputation that would prompt that action. There's no reason to be embarrassed about looking for a job, that's how most of the world does it, they look for opportunity.

If you are experienced, and if you have a well developed set of skills and domain knowledge, it is common to be 'recruited' or 'poached.' It has happened to me a few times.
However, at lot depends on the job market. And, the market right now seems to break all of the old recommendations and truisms. Referrals aren't worth much any more. Directly contacting the HM doesn't work like it used to. Etc.
So, does it happen? Yes. But, I think it is happening less than it did 3 or 4 years ago.
Hard disagree. While I have been approached, the better jobs are the ones I applied for. I personally 'Rage Apply' when something at work annoys me, which means I'm firing out an application every now and again. It makes me feel back in control, and I have gotten better gigs from the practice.
I do agree with that statement. I have told people to NOT quit their jobs so they can find another one. Never be on the hunt. Always be on the lookout while comfortably making money. Hang with people in the profession that you desire. Become what you want to be.
That sounds wise - Are you a mentor?
People with a solid work history and experience who have a track record of success are more likely to have someone approach them for a role, and they'll have an easier time networking for a new role, but it's not as if top companies are reaching out all the time to see if they want to switch roles.
Even the most successful in the c-suite have to out themselves out there to find that "perfect" role.

For the majority of people, it is very unlikely. I have a better GitHub profile than at least 80% of programmers (hundreds of open source commits) and never got a single email. If you don't ask, you won't get anything no matter how good you are. People are more cowardly and less social than ever before. I recently went to jury duty and nobody socialized with each other on break at all and dead silence heads in phones.
Not true.. that phrase may only apply to the elite such as CEO'S for MICROSOFT, large companies with limited people that can do the job well for share holders.
Most need to always be on the lookout for options or change careers. Either way you need to actively seek and network.
Just happened to me. Wasn't looking but I did have 'what's next' rolling around in my head. Out of the blue was presented with an offer that answered the question and one that I just could not refuse.
Be the best you that you can be. Deal honestly with your clients (anyone that consumes you work), become invaluable, become the person others seek out.
This is not an immediate result but the culmination and validation of the work you put in.
The jobs you take and seek (nothing wrong with looking) will lead to that moment if you put in the work.
All the comments here are super insightful. I’ll add my 2cents but I’m in the same boat as many.
I still get recruited constantly every day, but it is for very low paying jobs. I could take them but it would be 1/4 of what I use to make.
And applying to jobs doesn’t work either in this economy. In about 1.5 years I have applied to 5000 jobs so far and got 2 real work total.
One way I got people’s head turn is by making yourself indispensable by making a library, or being famous
The library comes after someone has already done big things in the world.
Someone told me that to truly do what you love is a long journey and commitment. Along that journey you will have to be proactive in achieving your goals. In other words, take as many steps as it takes to get to where you want to be. Good luck!
Right now the market seems to be tilted in favor of employers looking for young, fresh, desperate, eager raw meat for the grinder. There's always been a market for this segment of things since the impression has always been that they'll the impossible on the cheap under the worst circumstances, but senior talent has always been desired to keep things in check. Now it seems like anyone wanting a higher salary isn't desired at all. I think that the pendulum is going to swing again soon since a lot of the fresh meat left a lot of train wrecks that have sunk whole companies (look at AAA gaming), but I don't have any idea of just how much longer until things get back to where they were.
.Developing a deep network can create opportunities for jobs to find you.
No, that's a silly idea made up by recruiters and ppl in cushy industries. Everybody else is knife-fighting for their position, fam
Don't be silly!! Companies have specific needs and sometimes you are not the match. I'm in the same spot right now. Be patient and don't hesitate to pivot in another direction.
I feel it is like your work speaks for yourself if people are aware of you or if they have a natural way that reach to you.
I think life is not about career building because it is not that your career keeps you alive but rather the life you build
Jobs always find me, but lately not the right ones 👎🏻
I'm academic consultant I help students pass assignments and revise for examinations
Nope
In this job market, no. Everyone is having a hard time finding a job. Keep your head up and keep at it. Your biggest tool right now is networking, practicing your skills on side projects, and allowing yourself to show confidence in things that you know you know.
Yes and no. Depending on how large of a network you have to actively seek career opportunities and depending on what your focus is really relies on timing and who you know. There is far to many times I’ve seen people who get jobs that DO NOT fit. You will find the job, but utilize all the tools available - whether that be leaning on connections, actively applying, and really finding a job that speaks to you.
