We’ve had joint since we got married. I don’t understand couples that keep finances separate.
Agree. My friend is a stay at home parent and has to ask her husband for an allowance 😳
Both. Every month we deposit into our shared account for living expenses, shared entertainment, baby.
Same
Separate accounts that we both owned before and our salary goes into, then a joint account for expenses for kids, pets, home, etc. Also did a prenup because I felt it was important to signal to him that I am not in it for the money and his money will be his.
Rising Star
Really glad we married when we were broke. We have one account and it’s all “ours.”
Exact same way. We’re married, we share everything and built everything together. Dont
Understand why some marriages have separate bank accounts.
It’s definitely easier to have joint finances. I think it’s only an issue if one person has a spending problem. Also, even if one person doesn’t have a spending ”problem,” at the beginning there could be some hard feelings if one person is spending more than they make. Set some expectation on home furnishings, etc.
We have separate accounts but then we also have a joint account that we both contribute to for bills and grocceries, that sort of thing. I have always heard bad things about ONLY having a joint account so I decided that was not the route that I wanted to go.
Separate all the way. He covers certain expenses and I cover others. Avoids arguments about why someone spent this much at this spa or that fishing gear shop.
We don’t because we have separate bank accounts
Never questioned it. I was in a post grad program when I met my husband. He was very generous with paying for things. We automatically combined accounts when we married. It’s never been a problem. We also takes turns doing the bills (5-7 years at a time then swith). Married 34 years.
Pro
We have a joint account for general expenses and we each get a certain amount per month to put into separate accounts to spend on whatever we want. We started doing this over 5 years ago and it has worked for us.
Separate checking, shared card, shared savings
Separate finances blows my mind
100% combined. We love it that way. So much easier. We don't scrutinize and judge each other's purchases because we together plan our annual and monthly budget, which includes individual spending money for each of us.
