Im considering investing in a rental property. Would prefer something I can use and enjoy but still leverage as a vacation rental. We’re a skier/snowboarding family and would love to have a home we can use in the winter with lakefront/lake access for summer use. Does it make financial sense? I’m seeing lots of posts about really bad losses. If you trade you’re going to lose money - hopefully not all the time, but many positions will be mistakes. But you need a process to find ideas and manage positions. Two books you should read are “The New Trading for a Livinng” and “The Laws of Trading.” Both look at psychology, process, and risk in different ways that can help you work out your own process. The next 18 months will be much harder than the last 18 - time to start learning.

I have a question on 401k loans. How is the principal repayment reinvested? Monthly? When the loan is fully paid? Do they cash out that portion of my investments or just use then as collateral?

My partner and I are in the process of buying a PHEV that qualifies for the full non-refundable federal tax credit. We will both owe taxes in excess of the current $7,500 cap (will see if that increases with the new budget bill). If we both own the car (i.e. both names on the title), how do we manage filing for the tax credit when filing separately? Do we just pick one of us to file?
