I spent ten years in non-profits before moving to corporate. Sometimes I think about going back, but mostly I feel like everything is broken and we need good leaders (and good women especially) in every kind of role in every organization. The world needs everything, so give the world what YOU can mostly uniquely and powerfully give to the world. It will help, and it will do good. Sending thoughts your way for wisdom and guidance as you go through this time of discernment!

Like what? For sure I could work for a non profit and do great things but I am the sole breadwinner and have a mortgage and two kids and a husband. May as well use my boss skills to make that money!
Yes. I started doing a significant amount of probono work and volunteer for a charity organization. It helps.
I feel lucky in that the work I do feels very meaningful - helping leaders and teams be more effective, create a positive culture, and help develop their people. I did not feel that way at prior companies.
Yes. I’m exhausted by the constant ‘more revenue more profit more market share’ when there are kids who live a mile from me and are food insecure. It’s an insatiable corporate appetite with a publicly traded company.
I’m in the same boat as Partner 1 - family to support - and I appreciate the lessened financial pressure that being an executive brings.
Because the world is stressful and in need of new energy, I can understand why one would feel this way. I try to reframe by thinking by knowing—in my current capacity, I am powerful and I’m making a difference. I am more than a boss, but a leader of people. The people that we lead, depend on our guidance and often times we empower them to “change” and “influence” the world. Knowing and acknowledging this concept, is meaningful.
Yup, that’s my I work in social good for a for-profit company. Best of both worlds IMO. It’s not as much money as I could make in a commercial setting, but significantly more than the non-profit space.
