I’ve definitely had some weekends and late nights creeping in lately and I'm not happy about it. The best way I’ve found to avoid that is by setting strict boundaries with my team and blocking off time for deep work during the week. Having a clear plan and prioritizing tasks helps too. It’s all about being efficient and focused during normal hours and being willing to say no if someone is putting too much on your plate.
I used to have problems with that, but I found over time that planning could almost always help me avoid it. The planning doesn't have to be anything super involved, but it's more like just having a constant awareness of where I stand on a project and where I should be. The downside is that I'm always thinking of this stuff, and pushing myself along. But that's better than letting things slide and having to catch up over a weekend or late at night.
Being as efficient as possible during those normal working hours. Sometimes it can be unavoidable, but for the most part that planning really is the key to making sure you stay on top of it and aren’t putting in extra time. I’d rather have a couple late days then 24/7 work.
I used to struggle with this but then I started making sure meetings during the work day weren’t frivolous and if they could be handled in an email format to just follow that format instead. This gave me tons of time back in my day to do my actual job.
It's more of a mindset thing than anything. To me, there is always more work, it’s never ending but our time is limited. So immediately at 5pm, work ceases to exist. I stop and resume my life. I don't have email notifications on my phone and that has helped a lot because I used to have this strong urge to check and respond.
Yes.... all the time but I'm salary + OT.... and believe me the OT on my hourly figure adds up fast...
