Do you feel like your work is important in this day and age? Do you feel like you are making a positive difference in the world? I sometimes wonder if there is any meaning left to journalism.

There's great meaning to journalism. Just look at any major event and imagine if we were just getting the propaganda version of it. The problem is that a lot of what's being published is just trash and clickbait and literal disinformation. And a lot of public can't tell what's what, to be honest. But real journalism is as valuable as it ever was, if not more so.

Yes of course. I feel like it's maybe never been more important than now with the masses of information that people ingest everyday. Fact checking and editing feel like extremely meaningful work

I think there will always be meaning to journalism, someone out there will always read and learn from it

How do you all deal with the guilt of leaving a comany/ team? I have been working at Microsoft for 1 year now, and seriously considering moving. I find the code base to be very legacy and I mostly work on obscure bugs that I spend so much time on, mostly due to navigating this large code base and not having much docs to refer to. Hence I find the job slightly unsatisfying, and that I could learn more elsewhere. However, I love the wlb, the team and company culture. The guilt stops my applying.

Does anyone work at a firm where legal assistants don't do legal assistant things? For example, I have to do my scheduling and calendaring. I have to upload documents to our file management system. This morning, a name partners assistant didn't realize the name partner had a depo and didn't confirm it. This is how this firm as been for decades and it's incredibly frustrating to work this way. It's so hard to not stress over this daily.

Hello, I wanted to mention that I work as a sports commentator, specifically about soccer. I used to be one of the main journalists for Spanish media, but since I moved to Miami I feel the general passion for soccer is very different 🥲 The energy and commitment are not even close to what I felt in Spain, where some businesses would close if the match was too important. I hope this nostalgia goes away soon.

One of my direct reports has asked about going part time. They currently manage special reports in a bi-weekly publication, working closely with sales, freelance writers, and an internal designer. Job duties are primarily project management and editing/proofreading. As the first read on articles, they need to have an understanding of the material (business/regulation). Has anyone had experience with job sharing in this type of a role?

Has anyone seen the movie Spotlight? It made me think again about the passion to find the perfect news, the one that would be really helpful and necessary to society.
