Say the number you want up front - don’t dance around the number and don’t be coy. Answers like “in alignment with market compensation” suggest you have no idea what you want or what is in alignment with the markets. No point in interviewing for a dishwasher role when you want to be a head chef.

I grew up poor P1 and this is spot on advice. Strategic jumps and negotiation have helped me make substantially more than equally talented colleagues that didn’t play the game as aggressively.

Don’t give them a range where the low number isn’t what you’d actually take.

My fail was a multi-year one. I thought I'd done a great job negotiating because I got up to the absolute ceiling of the top pay band for my title and landed a sizable signing bonus. Company then let my salary languish with 0% raises for two cycles (bonuses were admittedly good) and then further penalized me with low raises while they elevated everyone around me to diminish the gap.

This is common when you get a substantial raise up front from being poached. Technically you’ve done better than you would have otherwise but I suppose you feel stagnant.

I'm a third year plaintiff's employment law attorney and I'm looking to move to defense, preferably still in employment law. I received an offer from a midsize firm that primarily focuses on PI with little-to-no employment law practice, so I'll have a bit of a learning curve. Offer is $90k, billable hours of 2100. Is this reasonable? I'm dead-set on leaving my current job, and this would be a $20k pay increase - which makes me believe I'm leaning towards taking it for those reasons only.

I have the following 2 offers..

Cognizant- 21L fixed and 1.5L variable
PWC - 22L fixed

This is for a guidewire role.
Which is a better offer? What would be a good option for growth wrt role, salary etc.
Also, PWC claims to offer variable based on their fixed CTC based on the ratings.. is this true ? How much is the avg percentage given?

Thanks in advance!

Hello! It seems this bowl is not very active but I'd like it to be. So here's my story: Born & raised in PR, moved to CA for undergrad & have been here since then. I graduated from law school in 2019, followed by a 2 yr bk clerkship. I did the evening program. I really enjoyed law school, in spite of the microaggressions, the late nights, & crazy competition. Love all things diversity in the law. Anyway, currently looking for a position in NYC/DC area. 🤗

Last week I had an interview with Infosys, it didn't go well as per my expectations but i was able to answer most of the questions asked by the panel and they said I will get the feedback from HR team but it's been more than one week and I didn't get any update on this. Yesterday I also wrote an email to the HR who scheduled the interview but still no update.

Should I consider that I am not being selected?

What is considered a “large” caseload in employment litigation? I work at a large L&E boutique law firm and handling about 14-15 active litigation cases in state/federal court or arbitration. Some of these matters are multi-plaintiff and multi-defendant cases, but none are class actions. This does not include any matters I am handling in the charge stage or in pre-litigation. Not sure if that’s a typical caseload or not?

I have an informational interview with a Managing Director on Friday about a manager role. I currently serve in a client services role and do not have traditional consulting experience (billable hours, etc.). Additionally, while I’ve worked with McKinsey, Accenture, McKesson, and other teams on major projects, I don’t have experience putting together the strategy, more of a support function. Feeling a tad intimidated! Any tips would be so very appreciated!
