Which one to choose between Optum and Tiger Analytics for Data Scientist position? Where can I expect better data science domain expertise (In my previous companies I found very less understanding of Data Science practices as team)? Heared good things about both of these. Also hearing Tiger is expanding rapidly and getting some crap projects as well in the name of data science. Could someone put light on these things?

I ask what their ideal employee looks like. I also ask what career progression looks like in the role/at the company. I usually stick with these two questions because they're often important and illuminating for me.

These are both good since I feel like it provides good information for you as the candidate but also shows that you're ambitious while also contributing to the success of the team you're joining
What’s currently the biggest challenge for the person entering the role I’m interviewing for?

@UE1 These are also good follow up questions!!! Gets you good information and shows if there are any red flags and also shows that you're thinking long term and are asking more than just superficial questions
I personally tend to ask question along the lines of,
“What issues are you hoping this roll would solve and/or what are (other) issues within the company from your perspective that could be addressed from someone in this position?”
“From someone sitting within the roll what are some of the largest challenges they feel they face from within the company and how do you feel someone stepping in to this roll could prepare or work to correct those issues internally?”
“What are some key traits you look for when saying that someone within this roll has been an asset and is successful?”
I think any of the three question start the mindset of how can I be someone who is incredibly beneficial to the company rather than being a burden from the beginning, plus it help lay the roadmap of what’s expected and gives insight into issues that are in the company to help you decide if taking on those problems are worth the pay that they are offering.

I do like these but do they ever come back and basically tell you what's in the job description since most basically tell what the basic qualifications and preferred qualifications they're looking for are?
I always ask about their process, like walk me through a typical day or project.

Yea this is a good one to ask to get a sense of how the team operates and what your day could end up looking like although I will say that I feel like I've gotten mixed responses on this one
Lately something that’s been clicking well conversationally has been asking about in what capacity the org/team is using AI and how it’s impacting work
Obviously use this question where you feel comfortable AI processes are being used (I’ve been holding this one for tech companies), but it kicks off some really great conversation and tells people you’re ready for the inevitable takeover of tech in design

Ohh might have to start adding this to what I use! I like that it sticks with current trends/news and can show that you're thinking about how to adapt as the company moves forward and agree that it sounds like it could be a great way to kick off conversations
