Do you look at lists of Fortune 500 companies as part of your negotiations? Assuming they pay better.

Only if I am going to work for another Fortune 500 company in a similar industry/market. Otherwise, you would feel pretty silly negotiating for a job with Vance Refrigeration and saying “but a Fortune 500 company offers X.”

Lololol love The Office

No. Look at industry and competitors of that specific company.

F500 includes Amazon and bath and body works. F500 mean nothing

like

That does make more sense. Thanks

Need a comparable company as a basis. Look for sector / size. Also, be aware what market pay is for your role and the one you’re looking to fill

like

You know, I’ve never actually looked or thought to look at the sector/size of the company. Thanks for that perspective

No I don’t but maybe I should 🤔

like

Maybe. Something to explore. But it might depend on roles. Some roles may pay way more. But seems everyone wants a job at one of the companies.

F500 generally pay worse because the applicant pools are larger.

Interesting! I hadn’t thought about that.

Graduated in 2020, wanted to be a graphic designer, took a job at a startup in a social media role. The boss called me the "r" word for not handling entire 13-ish accounts roster well by myself. I quit. Found a role as social media specialist. Realized (again) that I hate social media. Moved to in-house mktg manager, only to be a glorified graphic designer / someone to call the city to cut down trees. I job hopped too much, I feel my portfolio is empty. How do I restart again? I feel defeated.

Additional Posts in Salary Negotiations

Hi everybody.
Right now I’m working as a junior product engineer in Amsterdam. From januari on I’ll be a medior product engineer. And now I’m in the middle of negotiating about my salary increase. The salary that I’m being offered feels low (41.5k).
Is there an other product engineer that could tell me if my gut feeling is right or not? Thanks in advance!

Currently going through some negations on an internal role. I’m currently at 88k and they offered me 100k for a position that requires a lot more work. Do you guys think it’s easier to land a higher salary when applying externally rather than internally? Also this is for a territory sales management role. They stated 120k+ is extremely high for that role. What do you guys think? Playing the game?

Hi! Recently discussed an associate graphic designer role with a recruiter. Is it reasonable to expect an 85k base in NYC? Am I underselling myself? For expert witnesses/lawyers

I’m a former forensic scientist that left the field several years ago. I recently received a subpoena from a case I worked and suggested to DA to have evidence re-worked by the lab or stipulation. If I am required to testify (as an expert witness), I would need to book a flight, hotel, etc. My question is this: can I ask for my requested hourly rate, travel, and hotel to be covered when speaking with DA or is that “not how this works” as the investigator put it?

I’m currently in a lease admin type role, in commercial real estate. I make a base salary of $50.5K with about $9k in bonuses. I’ve continuously received 7-10% raises over the last 3 years. I anticipate getting a promotion this year and would like to get closer to $60k for my base salary. I’m the only person in my role at the company and have been a key person in developing our team as we look to expand. Is this unreasonable? Is there a normal increase given with promotions?
