Remote! 💯 and I have no intention going back to the office setting if I can avoid it.
The learning and some of the camaraderie can still happen, you just need to be more intentional about it—pick up the phone, ask them to meet with you over a virtual coffee.
The sharing of ideas, personal experience and the vibe of hanging out can still be experienced. If anything the intentionality heightens and focuses attention, and saves so much time. The water cooler experience has invaded my peace and concentration in my work that I’m glad for being able to control the phenomenon. And no more office neighbor water cooler chatter to disturb me either.
That’s are so many advantages to controlling your work environment that mandatory office work to me feels archaic. People who want the office, go in. People who don’t, give them the option of working where it works best for them.
I’m with you! It is nice to have those “water cooler” moments, but I’m much happier when I get to choose when to be intentional with it, instead of it being forced upon me when I’m trying to focus
I’m curious though - you seem to have remote work down so well. Do you have any tips or tricks or best practices as you’ve been working?
I prefer remote because the office can get noisy sometimes & I find it distracting
I'm so much more productive when I work remotely. We're hybrid, so I'm only able to two days a week, and I swear I get twice as much done on those two days than I do the three I spend in office. I have such a hard time getting things done with people popping into my office every 10 minutes.
This! Yes!! Every time I’m in the office, I get a small fraction of my to do list done because people want to chat or get coffee. It’s nice, but it really does cause such a back log
I'm a remote worker and definitely think I'm more productive, but I do miss the camaraderie of being in the office and often get a lot of fomo of people doing events together after work.
It wasn't easy to create a clear distinction between work and home, purely because I'm terrible at sticking with my own boundaries. I sorted it though, and overall I am much happier working from home now than I ever was in the office. I am far less stressed than I used to be.
Same! Any tips on how you were able to sort through that? I too struggle with my own boundaries!
Remote
I prefer working remotely, and I'm grateful to be doing it. But I admit that every now and then I miss the camaraderie of being in an office. And when I did work in offices I learned an awful lot from being around other people. That just can't happen in a remote scenario.
Yes! I’m so grateful to not start my career remote. I can’t tell you how much I learned being around other people. But I’m also so grateful to work remote now and have way more flexibility and freedom
So happy to be remote! I visit the office about once a month..
We are on the same schedule because same! I usually go in once a month (and mostly because free food)
Yeah I totally get what you mean. I feel like ever since I've been fully remote, my work bleeds into my home life so much. I'm never leaving right at 5, I'm always like doing little things here and there during the day so I add time to the end of my workday and pretty soon it just feels like I'm always at work.
Yes!! I ultimately prefer remote but it gets so hard. I’m in New York too, so having my desk in my living room feels like I never fully log off. Something I’m trying to get better at!
