Yes at least for me. Maybe less base salary, but total comp is higher with bonuses, cheaper healthcare, RSUs (stock), and big 401k matches. I made same base salary but walked out with 80k more in NET total comp from those other things (tax savings too I moved to a no tax state from nyc).
Y'all hiring more CDs?
Varies widely
Welp, right now I'm not. Bad culture of brand managers thinking they are creative directors. Of course, they also seem to think being a CD is being the brand police, adding a 2nd or 3rd logo to a piece and asking for headlines to change to something like "unlock your potential"
Pro
Let’s add a bug to this
Varies. I had a WK role and I went a lateral title move to Nike. And they said they couldn’t match my advertising salary.
Did the same thing with Apple, and they exceeded my salary expectation and gave me a higher title. I’m thinking my title had to justify my wage.
Each place is different.
It varies a lot. CDs at Meta make something in the range of $400-600k-ish, so more like GCD/ECD pay agency side.
Another tech company I was at was roughly the same. Significantly higher than agencies. I think the other big ones, like Google, Apple, Airbnb etc pay around the same, maybe even more.
A couple of other tech companies I worked at paid significantly less, like 180-200k but offered potential forever money in equity. They all went bankrupt so they didn’t pay off, but all in all it was worth the risk. Learned a lot regardless.
It’s tricky to get your foot in the door at the moment, but one loophole is starting as a contractor. It pays super well, and you get benefits, and you can usually do it for 1-2 years, so more like permalance. If they like you, you’re likely to get a fast track to full time employment, but it’s not a guarantee.
More if you have an MBA!!
The MBA thing is such an archaic American argument. I don’t know a single highly paid CD with an MBA.
