An Afr Am man asked why male Caribs and Africans have access to certain types of Afr Am women. The answer is interesting https://www.quora.com/Why-do-Immigrant-Black-men-e-g-Nigerians-seem-to-find-dates-with-higher-class-Black-American-women-than-I-do-a-Black-American-male/answer/Paris-Walker-5?ch=12&share=5a829587&srid=6yai

Not at all. Curious why you would think that way? I am a hybrid (1/2 african and 1/2 caribbean) and was not born in US. Aside from enjoying going through the hoops of the systemic racism the US has to offer, I feel like I don’t approach several issues the same way blacks who were born and raised in US may do. Might have to do with having a more global perspective, family dynamics or values affected differently by impact of slavery, i don’t know. So I appreciate this forum and look forward exchanging.
Great. Shows that our reality is often shaped by our different perspective. In most latin countries (italy spain france etc) you say what is on your mind. You debate, you disagree and no one bats an eye, lol. People wont hold against you either if you are a great orator. I have rarely noticed this being a desirable trait here in the many social circles I dabbed in. My post wasn’t so much about talking problems but divergence of opinion from “the norm”. Glad to hear about your different perspective!
Only if we let it. There are conversations we could have in here like the SA vs Nigeria (lowkey everybody) that the larger group might not want to contribute to, and conversations like our internalised antiblackness to dismantle that we need to confront in spaces like this one. That does not mean we allow the inevitable questions to devolve into sh*t talking.
The SA v Nigeria conversation might even be better suited for the African bowl than this one
I don't think so. There are some things that only we can relate with. Also, culturally, we may be black but we aren't all the same, so relatability can become a serious issue. One love though!!
It wouldn’t take away from it. Black Americans and Africans/Caribbean’s are generally different. We can also discuss things like the Yvonne Orji podcast, “Jesus and Jollof” in peace
F1 I came here as a kid in 1983 and luckily grew up in a Caribbean neighborhood (Go Flatbush). Most of us are closer to our culture. I am happy that I was only slightly Americanized. I came back to raise my daughter in our culture too.
I wouldn't say take away if there are specific afro Caribbean topics discussed here (even though they could be discussed there as well). In this American that we're in they still look at all of us the same, so our problems are theirs as theirs are ours...so I'm all for us having dialogue in the one bowl, but these are just my thoughts.
One thing I dislike is when Black Americans act as if they have a broader view and can't learn from us. I dislike that they now question Caribbean people on our Blackness, when we have ALWAYS been deeply connected to our African heritage and sought scholarship. Half of the things Black Americans are just finding out were introduced 2 centuries ago By Carribean Blacks. A Haitian man founded Chicago, yet they call it the museum of African American history. Marcus Garvey came during the early 1900s to spread the knowledge of African religion and the love of the Black woman.
As Black immigrants we grow and live with Black Americans that outcast us. Then whe we form out own community, they come and try to infiltrate. Meanwhile they are the richest Blacks in the Western Hemisphere and do nothing to help other foreign Blacks in the region. When they visit our countries in the Caribbean we are hospitable. When we come to America they call us booty scratchers and marginalize us. Infiltrate our spaces and attack us, with their American Privilege. And when we come and struggle and pass them, they get mad at us for using the things the refused to use. Hell half your civil rights leaders were Caribbean or African.
If every other Black culture gets along except 1.. it can't be all of us. Only American privilege would even allow that thought. Learn more about Black history instead of African American history and then your minds will open. Until then, one missing act don't stop no show.
