Does anybody have any idea what this is? My wife picked up a bag of 15 of them at a yard sale and they were on a table with other car parts. I'm not a mechanic, but I've worked on enough cars to say I've never seen anything like it before.

They are solid brass and are about 2.25" diameter and .25" thick.

Thanks!

Can you fit two together when mated? If so it’s a type of lock washer. As others have said, may not be for a car, but it’s definitely mechanical in nature. Perhaps aircraft.

My question would be, why did your wife pick them up in the first place…?

Yea she likes Little brass things to decorate with so they caught her eye

Full top view. The back was completely blank and smooth. No manufacturers markings on them anywhere.

My first guess would be this would this is some type of lock washer. Perhaps for engine or transmission or some type of machinery that has moving parts.

Looks like a clutch plate

I thought that at first, but I couldn't find any that had the variable steps and the dots on it. Do they even make them out of brass?

Clutch plate is what I’m thinking. How do you know it’s solid brass?

Non magnetic and the weight feels about right

It’s a crush washer if I’m not mistaking, it’s used to prevent vibrations from reversing out a bolt as a vehicle has many vibrations.

🤷🏻‍♂️ maybe a jeep wrangler haha. It looks too much like one to not be. But you right that’s a huge washer if so for a car.

These are not car parts.

They’re napkin rings. My grandparents had some that looked almost exactly like this. Roll up your silverware in a nice linen napkin, and then slide them through. The reason you have 15 is because they were mass produced brass in molds. My guess is they’re probably from the 1950s or maybe the late 1940s.

There were a TON of small brass goods that hit the market in the late 40s and early 50s because we converted all the unspent casings from WW2 ammunition into other things. In this case, you have some napkin rings. Enjoy them. The brass that was once destined for the battlefield ended up here on Fishbowl, and soon… your dinner table.

Wow super cool!
