I thought all firms did this!
Lolz
This happened for a friend at Fried Frank. Hired at second year comp.
I was bumped a year for having an mba, but after my second year.
Cooley does this. I didn’t feel the difference until I became a “mid level” by my deemed class year and had to level up quicker than my peers. Pros are obviously better comp and getting more substantive opportunities earlier. Cons are that more is expected of you much sooner than for your peers and your timeline to make decisions re your future is accelerated.
who told you this?
I saw it done at least twice at Cahill. It was a number of years ago, but wouldn't surprise me if they were still doing it.
What experience do you have?
Seen it done at Paul Weiss
Yes this definitely happens, often firms will make this clear on their careers page.
Latham gives a bonus but it’s not a full class year bump unless something’s changed
Dpw takes a similar approach
K&E does this.
My firm used to do this but I think we stopped. It was the market standard a decade ago
Yes it happens often.
